Sign up now for the Junior Orphanage Cup 2024!
The Orphanage Cup is East Lancashire’s most prestigious and historic football tournament and has been running for over 90 years, with a junior tournament introduced two years ago delivered by Child Action Northwest in partnership with Blackburn Rovers Community Trust.
It promises to be an exciting weekend of tournament action for youngsters aged between U7s to U10s, played in five a-side and seven a-side formats on state-of-the-art 3G pitches as teams compete to win the Trevor Booth Memorial Cup, a treasured and significant piece of the Blackburn Orphanage history and CANWs present.
Registration costs £60 per team, with different teams from the same junior club welcome to play. All money raised from the tournament will be split evenly between Child Action Northwest and Blackburn Rovers Community Trust.
To enhance fundraising efforts for this year’s event all teams are being asked to get creative and challenged to raise as much money possible; prior to the final, to be in with a chance of winning some exciting ‘money can’t buy’ prizes. Awarded for the top 3 overall fundraising teams.
First prize: Meet the Blackburn Rovers first-team, watch them train, and have a tour of the Senior Training Centre.
Second prize: Signed Blackburn Rovers ball for each player.
Third prize: Free tickets to Blackburn Rovers first-team home game for the whole team and two adults.
Trevor Booth was born in 1933 and came to what was then Blackburn Orphanage on the 16th November 1934 when he was just 18 months old. Trevor grew up in the Orphanage, with his brother, and left when he was 17 in 1950. Following this he then went on to have a successful career, raised a family and supported present day charity; Child Action Northwest over all those years.
Trevor remained in touch, shared memories, was involved in a TV programme about the charity archives a number of years ago, has supported CANW’s fostering campaigns, done countless radio interviews and organised the Orphanage cup for many, many years in his role as Vice President.
Having sadly passed away early December 2019; we commemorate his legacy and unwavering support with that of the ‘Trevor Booth Memorial Cup’, presenting it to the winning team of the Junior Orphanage Cup for many decades to come.
