Planning Together for Children programme
Reason for Referral:
M is a parent of two children aged 7 and 11.
Following the parent’s separation, communication between them became strained and often conflict focused. Disagreements around routines, school matters and contact arrangements regularly escalated, causing distress for both parents and impacting the children’s emotional wellbeing. M felt unsure how to manage conversations constructively.
Intervention:
Both parents were referred to the Planning Together for Children co-parenting programme. The programme provided structured learning stages focused on understanding children’s needs after separation, improving communication, managing conflict, and developing practical co-parenting plans. M attended all stages of the programme and engaged in reflective exercises, group discussions, and practical tools designed to support child-focused decision making.
Measurable Outcomes:
As a result of completing the programme, M reports increased confidence in communicating calmly and effectively with his co-parent. They have developed strategies to manage difficult conversations and reduce conflict, particularly around handovers and school related decisions. M noted a clearer understanding of how parental conflict affects children and has made changes to prioritise consistency and reassurance for them. The children are now experiencing more stable routines and reduced tension between parents. Overall, the programme has helped M move towards a more cooperative co-parenting relationship, supporting improved outcomes for the whole family.
Feedback:
M said “A lot of good information. It really grabbed my attention and made me sit up and take notice. Feeling hopeful as I know that I and my co parent have both completed the course.”
90% of parents reported high satisfaction with the Planning Together for Children programme.
