Charity football tournament will mark 92 years of keeping prestigious North West heritage alive
The Child Action Northwest Orphanage Cup, a long-running football tournament, which took place for the first time in 1932, brings together amateur football teams from local companies across Lancashire.
The 2024 Orphanage Cup final will take place on the AFC Darwen pitch on Saturday 22nd June 2024, 3pm Kickoff.
The Orphanage Cup has raised more than £100,000 for Child Action Northwest (CANW), which started life at Blackburn Orphanage and supports over 17,000 children, young people and vulnerable adults every year. A charity with a big heart, their mission is to support every child to achieve their ambitions, whatever challenges they face.
A huge thank you to the Lancashire Football Association, for their guidance and support and also each business who has signed up to participate in this years exciting tournament.
If their previous matches are anything to go off then the final is set to be a fantastic one!
Admission on the gate will be £5 per adult, £2.50 per children. With all money raised going directly to help: children, young people and families in their local communities.
We’d love to see as many supporters attend, so get the date in your diaries, not one to be missed.
Ali Stathers-Tracey, CEO of CANW commented:
“The Orphanage Cup offers businesses a fantastic team building opportunity, and it’s a brilliant way to engage with colleagues outside of work in a fun and competitive environment.
“Businesses are also increasingly searching for a way in which they can directly support good causes within the communities most local to them – the Orphanage Cup gives local businesses the chance to score in both of these areas and we’re thrilled to have had so many new businesses support us in this years tournament.”
Leigh Jeffrey, Recreational Football Development officer of LFA commented:
“We’re honoured to continue to support this historic tournament – one that has now been running for over 90 years. All the proceeds raised go towards helping a fantastic local charity, Child Action Northwest and we’re delighted to play a part. Participation in grassroots football is a key priority, so to see so many local businesses and community organisations getting involved and playing competitive matches is fantastic.”
