Youngsters score money can't buy experience thanks to being TOP charity fundraisers

With over 40 youth football teams from across Lancashire and surrounding areas signing up and fundraising for the Junior Orphanage Cup 2023, Blackburn Eagles U10s were awarded fundraising CHAMPIONS !

As the largest amount winning team, Blackburn Eagles gained the chance to go to the Senior Training Centre and see the first team train. Having raised over £700 with proceeds being split between Child Action Northwest and Blackburn Rovers Community Trust.

On the tour they got to see every part of the footballing operation at Blackburn Rovers, seeing where Jon Dahl Tomasson gives his players their tactical instructions, to the treatment room, seeing players working through their rehabilitation process, working out whose boots were who’s in the boot room to even checking out the swimming pool!

The young people then got to watch the likes of Aynsley Pears, Leopold Wahlstedt and the rest of the goalkeeping department take part in a specialised session before seeing the rest of the squad being put through their paces out on the grass.

Following the training session the the young people got to spend some time in the Indoor Centre using the Blackburn Rovers Community Trust Inflatable, ahead of the arrival of two Rovers fan favourites: Midfield duo Sammie Szmodics and Tyrhys Dolan received a great reception from the children, who then took part in a Q&A about their lives on and off the pitch as a Rovers player.

The team received some great advice from the players for the season ahead and rounded off a memorable day with a team photo and a couple of autographs!

Georgia Murphy, Fundraising and Events Lead of CANW commented:

“We are so grateful to Martin and the team at Blackburn Eagles U10’s for the fundraising they did on top of taking part in our Junior Orphanage Cup. We are so glad they managed to get a fantastic prize of the tour and we couldn’t continue the work we do without this kind of fundraising.

Thank you so much to Blackburn Rovers Community Trust for helping us with the event and to Blackburn Rovers Football Club for making this prize possible.

Please keep your eye out for the 2024 Junior Orphanage Cup, we would love to see even more teams like Blackburn Eagles get involved.”
